poem

how do you write a
poem about new york city

they have all been written

how do you write about the
ebb & flow of unhumanity
when there isn't ebb

just flow

or the cacophony that echoes
through man-made caverns & canyons
made of steel, concrete,
& glass

how do you quantify the
feeling of your smallness to
its biggness without sounding childish, awe-
filled, & overly-romantic (i fear
i am all three)

there must be a way, but it is
lost to me
i can't begin to grasp it,
though i try
