You're as American as red meat and shooting ranges. Tough and independent, you think big. You love everything about the US, wrong or right. And anyone who criticizes your home better not do it in front of you!
My mother was a school teacher. About twenty years ago she brought home a beautiful framed map of the United States because the school was getting rid of it. Across the top of the map was this quote: "Breathes there a man with soul so dead, who never to himself has said, 'this is my own, my native land'."
The school got rid of this map because it was not politically correct. Multiculturalism had won the day in Academia.
I, myself, get chills every time I read that quote. Patriotic songs choke me up in the same way Hymns do. I am in love with America, warts and all, and I feel sorry for folks who chose to replace these "embiggening" feelings with bitterness and anger.
I love the USA but sometimes I have mixed feelings because of all that being American does and has involved. I don't ever wish that I wasn't American.
Oh - I was in Charleston with David a few weeks age and we saw a store named Savanah. Now I know there is a city named that but of course it remined me of my old screen name. Thought you might appreciate that. (smile)

I hope you don't love everything about America. I really do.
